Medicare rules will not allow Independent Health to display over-the-counter (OTC) drugs on the list in this system. However, Independent Health covers Prilosec® OTC at $O copay. In fact, your Medicare Part D Plan requires that you try or have tried Prilosec OTC, prior to obtaining a prescription proton pump inhibitor (PPI), such as omeprazole, Prevacid, Prontonix, Aciphex, Nexuim, or Zegrid.

A prescription is required for coverage of Prilosec OTC. Prilosec® OTC is the same drug as prescription omeprazole. National treatment guidelines suggest that over-the-counter Prilosec OTC is effective for many people who have heartburn.
